Call in sick -- Meaning

This is very common in work or school situations.

📞 Call in sick

🔹 Meaning:

To inform your workplace or school that you will not come because you are sick.

👉 You call (or message) to say you’re sick.

Examples

  • I had a fever, so I called in sick.

  • He’s calling in sick today.

🔎 Grammar Pattern

Call in sick (to + place)

  • I called in sick to work.

Often, we don’t even say “to work” because it’s understood.

🔥 Important Note

You don’t use it if you’re already at work.

I’m calling in sick at the office.
✔️ You use it when you’re staying home.

🎯 Casual Conversation Example

  • Why weren’t you at work yesterday?
  • Oh, I called in sick.

⚠️ Extra Expression

If someone pretends to be sick:

  • He called in sick, but he was actually at the beach.

(That means he lied 😅)
