The Meaning of 'much more'

Meaning of “much more”

“Much more” means:

a lot more / far more / jauh lebih

It is used to emphasize a comparison — to show that the difference is big.

Structure

Usually:

much more + adjective
much more + noun
much more + verb (in some cases)

1. Much more + adjective

Used to compare qualities.

  • This movie is much more interesting than the first one.
→ Film ini jauh lebih menarik daripada yang pertama.
  • I’m much more comfortable now.
→ Sekarang aku jauh lebih nyaman.

Without much, it becomes softer:

  • more interesting → lebih menarik
  • much more interesting → jauh lebih menarik

2. Much more + noun

  • We need much more time.
→ Kita butuh jauh lebih banyak waktu.
  • She has much more experience than I do.

3. Much more (alone at the end)

  • He’s smarter than I thought — much more.
  • It hurt more than I expected. Much more.

This makes it dramatic or emotional.

Important note

We use much more mostly with:

  • uncountable nouns
  • adjectives

For countable nouns, we often use:

  • many more

Example:

  • many more people
  • many more books

But:

  • much more money
